bursaryWe’re aware of how much it can cost financially for baristas to compete in competitions, which can potentially exclude the best talent. This is why we created the BTB Barista Bursary; to give support to one barista out there who is thinking about entering their first heat. Entries for 2018 have started to roll in and we are getting very excited to get the ball rolling with the judging stages early next year.

In case you missed our newsletter we are changing the rules in a big way for 2018 by opening up the bursary to applicants from anywhere in Europe who are hoping to compete in any of the six World Coffee events; Barista Championship, Brewers Cup, Coffee in Good Spirits, Latte Art, Cup Tasters and the Coffee Roasting Championship.

So why should you apply for the Bursary? For the regional heats the winner will get £500 towards their expenses, £1,000 at semi / final and it doesn’t stop there if you don’t. Full details can be found here on our website

We will also be offering the winner credit on our extensive gear range. Whether it’s milk pitchers, shot glasses or Brewista Scales the winner will be able to get the best tools for the task at hand. As well as that we will of course be offering support throughout the competition.

But don’t take our word for it, this year’s winner Darryl Docherty explains what winning the BTB Bursary has meant to him “The financial cost of competing can be absurd, and is one of the most common reasons why baristas don’t compete.  Having this bursary, coupled with the on-going support of the BTB team has given me peace of mind and has allowed me to focus entirely on my performance.”
